StartNorth Backs Migrant Entrepreneurs Through Dedicated Accelerator at Dimboola Road Hub

StartNorth at 12 Dimboola Road has run an Innovation Festival and a LaunchVic-funded accelerator that together lifted membership from 20 to 50 people and created 22 new jobs for local businesses.

The $20 million conversion of the Broadmeadows Town Hall, backed by $13 million from council and $7 million from the State Government, is designed to expand professional space for the same cohort of startups and small firms already using the Dimboola Road facility.

Programs target refugee founders

StartNorth runs a specific accelerator for migrant and refugee entrepreneurs that draws on $46,000 in LaunchVic support. The program supplies training, 24/7 access and networking inside the council-owned space directly opposite Broadmeadows Railway Station. The Broadmeadows Precinct Roadmap, funded with more than $3.3 million from the Australian Government, lists the same goals of growing local businesses and adding jobs.

CSL facility sets industrial benchmark

CSL's Broadmeadows base fractionation facility received the Overall Winner of the 2025 Facility of the Year Award from ISPE. The recognition underscores how advanced manufacturing already operates at scale in the suburb while newer startup activity builds around coworking and accelerator models.

Evidence of progress appears in membership growth and job creation at StartNorth after the Innovation Festival, alongside the separate $250,000 grant Hume City Council received under the state's Multicultural Business Precinct Revitalisation Program to improve shopping strips on Barry Road, Olsen Place and Mahoneys Road. These steps sit within the broader Precinct Roadmap effort to increase small-business start-up opportunities.

Further activity will depend on continued use of the existing accelerator and coworking resources at StartNorth and on the scheduled completion of the Town Hall conversion, which will add mixed-use professional space for entrepreneurs already connected to the Dimboola Road site.
