Broadmeadows Secures Funding to Launch 100+ Startup Opportunities

StartNorth at 12 Dimboola Road has grown its membership from 20 to 50 after the Innovation Festival, with businesses based there creating 22 new local jobs. Hume City Council is investing $13 million to turn the Broadmeadows Town Hall into mixed-use space that includes office rentals and mentorship for small business owners. The federal government has added more than $3.3 million through the Precincts and Partnerships Program to support the Broadmeadows Precinct Roadmap focused on business growth and job creation.

These steps follow the Victorian Government's designation of Broadmeadows as a priority suburb for revitalisation, which includes backing for the StartNorth Innovation Festival and a $60 million redevelopment at the Kangan Institute. The changes arrive as CSL Behring's plasma processing facility in Broadmeadows processes over 10 million litres annually and earned the 2025 Facility of the Year award in the Pharma 4.0 category, adding to the area's industrial base.

Named locations and programs already in use

StartNorth operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, at 12 Dimboola Road directly across from Broadmeadows Railway Station and Broadmeadows Central. It houses the StartNorth Migrant & Refugee Program, funded by a $46,000 LaunchVic grant that supports up to 15 startup founders from migrant and refugee backgrounds. Hume City Council has also directed part of a $6 million state investment toward upgrades on Barry Road, Olsen Place and Mahoneys Road to strengthen multicultural business precincts.

The $20.2 million refurbishment of the Broadmeadows Town Hall incorporates $14.3 million in government funding to create professional offices and startup space inside the Broadmeadows Metropolitan Activity Centre. A feasibility study is underway for an assistive technology hub to further strengthen advanced manufacturing activity in the north.

StartNorth membership doubled after the Innovation Festival, and the 22 jobs generated by tenant businesses provide a measurable outcome from the coworking model. The Hume Tech School at the Bendigo Kangan Institute Broadmeadows campus is scheduled to open in Term 3 2026 with STEM programs in advanced manufacturing, automation and data analytics.
