Local investment amid wider conditions
These openings occurred as Camberwell received £3 million from Transport for London to improve the town centre and address poor public transport infrastructure and high traffic volumes. The area also secured £1.5 million from the Greater London Authority's Good Growth Fund to upgrade Camberwell Station Road, convert empty railway arches into business units and install sustainable urban drainage systems plus eight new trees. Denmark Hill Station reopened after a £7.5 million carbon-positive upgrade that added solar power and secure cycle parking.
The Camberwell Community Council discussed business support at its meeting on 9 September 2025. Plans for new homes include 35 per cent affordable housing with 25 per cent designated as social rented homes. Southwark Council has tracked nitrogen dioxide levels on Camberwell Church Street, which halved between 2012 and 2022.
