Eclipse Cinema Shapes Collingwood's Creative Identity Through Indie Films

Eclipse Cinema opened on August 28, 2025, at 32 Wellington Street inside the former Sherrin football factory. The 64-seat boutique venue immediately began operating as an arthouse screen in Collingwood.

Programming and Daily Operations

The cinema runs 5-6 sessions daily from 11am, with additional 10pm shows on weekends. Screenings feature local and international indie, avant-garde, and festival titles including Grand Tour and Universal Language. Owner Mark Walker, an ex-projectionist and co-founder of Geelong’s Pivotonian Cinema, oversees operations that include Dolby digital sound and modern projection technology.

Eclipse Cinema fills a gap for arthouse and experimental films in the cinema landscape, which is otherwise dominated by mainstream multiplexes. By occupying a converted industrial site at 32 Wellington Street, the venue connects film programming directly to Collingwood’s existing built environment and creative activity.

In contrast, the primary cinema in Collingwood, Ontario, at 6 Mountain Road shows mainstream titles such as Mission: Impossible, The Final Reckoning and Lilo & Stitch. The presence of both venues illustrates how different Collingwood locations maintain distinct approaches to film exhibition that reflect their immediate surroundings.
