Albert Park Completes New Park, Shopping Facilities Amid Upgrades

Albert Park is developing a new 3,000 m² park and playground at 15-25 Spad Street, with construction due to start in January 2024 after a A$1.284 million council allocation and more than A$1.9 million in state and federal grants.

These steps occur as the suburb works through several infrastructure and planning changes at once. The timing aligns with resident interest in accessible green space and everyday shopping options close to home.

The Hendon Central supermarket and specialty complex at 53-59 Tapley’s Hill Road has been finished, adding shops, cafes and a plaza for the Albert Park and Hendon area. The Living Streets Program upgrade on May Street was completed in mid-2022 with new green verges, tree planting and better shared footpaths. Work is now beginning on Murray Street.

Street upgrades continue through Living Streets Program

The program covers Glyde, Murray, May, Grace and Jervois Streets over the next four years. Completion of the May Street section and the start of Murray Street work show the sequence of works being followed on the ground.

Rezoning proposal supports housing and open space

The City of Charles Sturt supports a rezoning proposal for non-residential parts of Albert Park near Port Road. The change would allow medium-density housing while adding local open space.

While some cities globally face extended delays on similar community projects, Albert Park has recorded both completions and new starts within the same planning framework.
