Documents released by the council show the new academy will replace the existing secondary provision. Residents point out that the single-site model will concentrate pupils from a wider catchment, altering daily journeys for those who live on the eastern side of the town and near the Tweed.

Budget and curriculum timeline

The £42-£50 million figure appears in the latest consultation papers. That spend covers construction of the state-of-the-art facility intended to serve the two-tier system. First schools expanding to primary status by September 2025 will also receive updates to literacy resources and STEM programmes, according to district notices.

Community members note that the timeline leaves limited room for further consultation once the contractor begins work. They say questions remain about how the new building will accommodate the full intake once the three middle schools close on 31 August 2026.
