Berwick Officials Announce Infrastructure Upgrades Boosting Housing and Safety

Officials in multiple Berwick communities have pointed to recent funding and completed works as key steps toward expanded housing capacity and improved local services. In January 2026 the Town of Berwick in Nova Scotia secured $6.99 million total, including $2.8 million federal, $2.33 million provincial and $1.87 million municipal, for wastewater treatment plant upgrades.

Water and Wastewater Investments

Pennsylvania American Water received $25.45 million, mostly as a loan, from state sources to construct a new water treatment plant in Berwick, Columbia County, that will use carbon filters to address PFAS contaminants. Local leaders have described these investments as essential for meeting environmental standards while accommodating future growth. The Nova Scotia project is part of the third of four phases and is intended to raise daily treatment capacity to support additional housing construction.

Road and Rail Works in Victoria

In Berwick, Victoria, authorities have noted the completion of the Clyde Road level crossing removal in February 2025 and the scheduled finish later in 2025 of the new Berwick Station bus interchange. Forty-two infrastructure projects are listed for the area, among them the Casey Hospital Emergency Department Expansion under construction from 2025 to 2027 and expected to create more than 1,000 jobs, plus the Berwick South Development Plan. A major closure at the Thompsons Road and Berwick Cranbourne Road intersection ran from January 12 to February 13, 2026, to replace a roundabout with traffic signals and improve drainage.

These timelines and funding figures demonstrate how officials and project managers are sequencing works to minimise disruption while advancing long-term capacity. UGI Utilities has also reported ongoing replacement of more than 10,000 feet of natural gas main along streets including Seventh and Sixth in the Pennsylvania Berwick, with completion targeted for early September. Experts involved in the projects have highlighted the need for upgraded utilities to underpin residential and commercial expansion.

Next phases will focus on integrating the new infrastructure with existing networks so that residents see reliable service improvements once construction concludes.
