NSW Funds Box Hill Roads, Schools, and Emergency Services
Targeted NSW Government support for roads, schools and emergency facilities responds to development pressures in a manner seen in expanding urban centres globally.
How we reported this
Box Hill has received $11.7 million in NSW Government funding for three infrastructure projects. The allocation covers $5.6 million for Water Lane Road construction, $3.5 million for land acquisition for a new fire station, and $2.6 million for Terry Road Upgrade planning and design.
Why the timing matters
Box Hill, NSW has an estimated $1.07 billion community infrastructure cost from FY22/23. This cost is jointly funded by developers and the NSW Government. The area faces a $207 million infrastructure shortfall without additional funding. The recent allocations arrive as the region continues to manage growth-related demands on roads, emergency services and education facilities.
Projects on named local roads and sites
The Hills Shire Council secured $30.4 million under Round Two of the NSW Government's Accelerated Infrastructure Fund. This supports Water Lane Reserve at $9.79 million, Annangrove Road upgrade at $6.99 million, and multiple intersection upgrades totaling over $13 million. Permanent schools on Terry Road, including Box Hill Public School with preschool and Box Hill High School, are scheduled to open in 2028. These efforts focus on specific streets and reserves already identified in local planning documents.
Evidence from cost estimates
The $1.07 billion community infrastructure cost figure and the $207 million shortfall are drawn directly from council records for FY22/23. These numbers illustrate the scale of investment required when population growth outpaces existing roads, parks and classrooms. Similar patterns appear in other growing cities where developer contributions and government grants are combined to close gaps.
Additional state support has already been directed to the three initial projects on Water Lane and Terry Road. Further work on reserves and intersections will follow through the Accelerated Infrastructure Fund. Residents can track updates through The Hills Shire Council channels as tenders and designs progress on the listed streets and sites.
