Box Hill Schools Plan Phased Openings, Complete 2028 Move to Terry Road

Box Hill High School will open in temporary facilities on Day 1, Term 1, 2026, starting with Year 7 students only before adding Year 8 in 2027 at a capacity of 300 students.

The primary school already began operations in temporary facilities on Day 1, Term 1, 2025, with an initial intake of 300 students from Kindergarten to Year 2 that grew to 600 students by Term 3, 2025. These timelines follow directly from the rapid rise in local demand after Box Hill's student population increased by over 1,000 percent between 2018 and 2023.

High School Phased Rollout

The temporary Box Hill High School will begin solely with Year 7 in early 2026. Expansion to include Year 8 occurs the following year while remaining within the 300-student limit at the temporary location. This staged approach allows the NSW Department of Education to manage enrolment growth without immediate pressure on permanent infrastructure.

Transition to Permanent Facilities

Both the primary and high schools are scheduled to shift to permanent buildings at Terry Road, Box Hill, on Day 1, Term 1, 2028. The move forms part of a $3.9 billion NSW Government investment in Western Sydney schools. The George Street temporary site currently used by the primary school will remain under NSW Department of Education ownership for future school purposes once the Terry Road campus opens.
