How Box Hill Reached Its Current Infrastructure Funding Decisions
Council actions on roads, reserves and stations reflect earlier planning tied to the Box Hill Release Area.
How we reported this
The Hills Shire Council secured $11.7 million in NSW Government funding for three projects in Box Hill: Water Lane Road construction, land acquisition for a new fire station, and Terry Road Upgrade planning.
Origins of the Funding Allocation
These allocations build directly on prior applications through the NSW Accelerated Infrastructure Fund, which had already delivered $30.4 million to the council for items including Water Lane Reserve and Annangrove Road upgrade. The sequence shows decisions that responded to the Box Hill Release Area framework established for residential growth.
Named Projects and Contract Awards
Tenders have been awarded for Anthony Skarratt Reserve Stage One, a four-way roundabout at Edwards and Annangrove Roads, and a culvert crossing on Terry Road. Additional earlier funding supported Water Lane Reserve at $9.79 million and Annangrove Road upgrade at $6.99 million, along with intersection upgrades at Old Pitt Town and Terry Roads. Two new permanent schools, Box Hill Public School and Box Hill High School, are also advancing with permanent classrooms planned to open on Terry Road.
Scale of Supporting Evidence
Approvals cover approximately 70 percent of the anticipated 16,030 residential dwellings in the release area, with 6,238 dwellings completed as of February 2024. The overall projection for the precinct reaches up to 16,699 dwellings and nearly 51,231 residents by 2037. New parks such as Ceres Way Reserve and Equinox Drive Reserve have opened, while construction has started on Brindle Parkway Sports Fields.
Work on the listed projects is now moving from tender stage into delivery, with further updates expected from The Hills Shire Council as milestones are reached.
