Box Hill Infrastructure Projects Move Forward With Key Decisions Pending
Recent funding allocations and tender awards set the stage for next phases of road, reserve and school works in the area.
How we reported this
Box Hill has secured $11.7 million in NSW Government funding for three infrastructure projects, including Water Lane Road construction, land acquisition for a new fire station and Terry Road Upgrade planning. Tenders have also been awarded for Anthony Skarratt Reserve Stage One, a four-way roundabout at Edwards and Annangrove Roads and a culvert crossing on Terry Road.
Funding Allocations Drive Immediate Priorities
The Hills Shire Council has obtained $30.4 million from the NSW Accelerated Infrastructure Fund, covering Water Lane Reserve, Annangrove Road upgrade and intersection upgrades at Old Pitt Town and Terry Roads. These commitments follow earlier state support and focus resources on specific road and reserve improvements rather than broad plans.
Tender Outcomes Shape Construction Sequence
With tenders awarded for the listed projects, contractors can move to detailed design and site preparation. The four-way roundabout at Edwards and Annangrove Roads and the culvert crossing on Terry Road require coordination with traffic management, while Anthony Skarratt Reserve Stage One sets parameters for open-space delivery. Decisions on staging and access will determine how quickly each site becomes operational.
Schools and Longer-Term Milestones
The NSW government is building Box Hill Public School and Box Hill High School, with permanent classrooms scheduled to open on Terry Road in 2028. This timeline overlaps with ongoing road works and will influence decisions about student access routes and temporary facilities until that date. Separate from these NSW projects, construction continues on the Suburban Rail Loop station at Box Hill in Victoria, where tunnelling is due to start in 2026 and trains are expected by 2035.
Next steps centre on contract execution for the tendered works, finalisation of designs for the funded roads and reserves, and coordination between the school opening and Terry Road upgrades. Residents and businesses can track progress through The Hills Shire Council updates on individual project milestones.
