Route 538 Direct Path on Camp Road
Public Transport Victoria adjusted Route 538 to run direct along Camp Road from December 17, removing stops on Holberry, Walsh, Graham and Widford streets while keeping the 40-minute weekday frequency and adding six extra afternoon trips on Saturdays. The change affects travel between Somerset Estate and Broadmeadows for residents who previously used those deleted stops and can now reach the service from Camp Road or connect via SmartBus 902.
The suburb functions as a sub-regional transport centre and bus terminus for the northern suburbs, located 15 km north of Melbourne's CBD, and is served by Broadmeadows railway station on the Craigieburn line plus regional Seymour, Albury and NSW TrainLink Southern lines.
Service Patterns and Upgrade Needs
Metro Trains Melbourne runs services from Broadmeadows Station to Flinders Street Station every 20 minutes, taking approximately 35 minutes. Bus routes serving the area include 477, 532, 542, 901 and SmartBus 902, and the station sits between Pascoe Vale Road and Railway Crescent.
Broadmeadows has 94 active public transport stops served by 26 routes. Car use accounts for 75 percent of commutes, followed by 14 percent by train and 5 percent by bus. Recent planning consultations have identified needs for more frequent train services, new bus routes, and improved pedestrian and cycling links at the station.
Hume City Council has allocated $250,000 in the 2025/26 budget for a Local Area Traffic Management plan covering Broadmeadows North to address traffic speeds, safety and pedestrian connectivity.
