Broadmeadows Transport Shifts Hit Daily Travel for Somerset Estate and North Residents

Public Transport Victoria rerouted Route 538 to run straight along Camp Road starting December 17. The change cut out stops on Holberry, Walsh, Graham and Widford streets while keeping the bus on a 40-minute frequency every day of the week.
Residents in Somerset Estate now reach the Broadmeadows bus terminus faster on the direct path. The same service still serves the area as the main bus hub for routes that connect to the station between Pascoe Vale Road and Railway Crescent.
Traffic speeds and safety concerns prompt council action
The City of Hume allocated roughly $250,000 in its 2025/26 budget for a Local Area Traffic Management plan covering Broadmeadows North. The money targets reported problems with vehicle speeds, crashes, pedestrian and cycling links, and parking near local streets.
Broadmeadows already records 94 active public transport stops across 26 routes. Car travel accounts for 75 percent of commutes, with trains at 14 percent and buses at 5 percent, according to local transport counts. The average walk to the nearest stop sits at 242 metres.
Station access and remaining options
Trains from Broadmeadows station to Flinders Street run every 20 minutes and take 35 minutes. Nearby households on Camp Road can still board Route 538 or SmartBus 902 after the December 17 adjustment. Six extra afternoon trips each way on Saturdays give weekend users more choices.
People affected by the removed stops can check the updated timetable on the PTV site or walk the short distance to the new Camp Road stops. The traffic plan work will roll out through the 2025/26 financial year as council crews address the listed safety and access issues in Broadmeadows North.
