Broadmeadows Updates Bus Routes and Traffic Plans to Address Local Travel Needs
PTV route changes and Hume City Council measures focus on direct services and connectivity gaps.
How we reported this

Broadmeadows has adjusted Bus Route 538 to run direct along Camp Road from Somerset Estate, replacing previous use of Holberry, Walsh, Graham and Widford streets. The service now operates every 40 minutes and includes six extra afternoon trips on Saturdays.
Bus Service Updates
The change took effect from December 17 and aims to deliver faster journeys to Broadmeadows. Bus stops serving the area are located near Broadmeadows Central shopping centre on Pascoe Vale Rd, Tanderrum Way, Pearcedale Parade and Colleraine St, with a taxi rank at the Woolworths entrance. The suburb maintains 94 active public transport stops across 26 routes, supporting an average distance of 242 metres to the nearest stop.
Rail and Regional Links
Broadmeadows railway station on the Craigieburn line provides Metro Trains services every 20 minutes to Flinders Street Station, taking 35 minutes. The station also handles regional V/Line services to Seymour and Albury as well as NSW TrainLink services to Sydney. SmartBus route 901 connects the area to Melbourne International Airport five kilometres west. Weekly passenger trips on local train and bus services total approximately 7,882.
Traffic Management Planning
Car travel accounts for 75 percent of commuting, followed by train at 14 percent and bus at 5 percent, with an average of 1.1 vehicles per dwelling. Broadmeadows is served by the M80 freeway yet lacks eastbound access, which creates a connectivity gap for local traffic. Hume City Council proposed a Local Area Traffic Management plan in 2023 that includes $250,000 in funding allocated for 2025/26 to address traffic speeds, pedestrian connectivity and parking issues.
Future Infrastructure
Planned projects include the Suburban Rail Loop North station at Broadmeadows and Hume Central Redevelopment. Residents can check current timetables through PTV channels for Route 538 and Craigieburn line services to plan trips around the direct Camp Road alignment and station connections.
