How we reported this

Hume City Council received over $3.3 million in federal funding to support the Broadmeadows Revitalisation Project. The project targets transformation of the area into a central hub while addressing societal disadvantage. This funding forms part of ongoing council work that reaches residents through improved public spaces and services.
Why These Changes Matter for Residents
Updates to facilities and planning affect how people use local amenities each day. Completed upgrades and future transitions influence access to recreation, community programs and long-term precinct decisions. Residents in the area bounded by Riggall Street, Camp Road, Talgarno Street and Pascoe Vale Road stand to see the results of these steps in their routines.
Completed Plaza and Reopened Centre
The upgraded Broadmeadows Civic Plaza is now complete and open. It includes new lighting, shelter, bespoke furniture and footpath decals added after community consultation. A joint investment of $580,000 from Council and the Victorian Government supported the work. The Broadmeadows Aquatic and Leisure Centre reopened after a chemical reaction during routine pool maintenance on June 20, 2024, which led to nine patrons being hospitalized for assessment as a precaution. Council later confirmed the centre safe for use.
Feedback Sought on Project Broadmeadows
Hume City Council is seeking resident feedback on Project Broadmeadows. The effort aims to create a long-term precinct development plan for the area between Riggall Street, Camp Road, Talgarno Street and Pascoe Vale Road. The plan is predicted to be finalized by December 2024. Input from locals helps shape the direction of development that will guide future infrastructure and services.
Community Hub Transition
The Broadmeadows Community Hub will transition to management by Dallas Neighbourhood House before July 1, 2026. This forms part of Hume City Council's ongoing community facility partnerships. The change affects how programs and services operate at the hub, giving residents a new point of contact for local activities.
Residents can review details on the revitalisation project and provide feedback through council channels. Visiting the new Civic Plaza or checking updates on the Aquatic and Leisure Centre offers immediate ways to experience recent work. Those using the Community Hub can prepare for the management shift by noting the upcoming date.
