Officials Detail Craigieburn West Precinct Expansions and New Facilities

The Victorian Planning Authority has gazetted plans for the Craigieburn West precinct that will deliver over 8,000 new homes plus a local town centre, schools and community hubs.

These moves come as part of a wider effort to create 15,000 new homes across three Melbourne precincts, with construction on related projects already scheduled to begin in early 2026. Local residents will see activity ramp up quickly once earthworks start on the 62-hectare Aston Craigieburn site released by Peet Limited.

Authority Positions on Infrastructure Timing

Two new community facilities are identified for development over the next 10 years inside the Craigieburn West Precinct Structure Plan. The facilities are meant to sit alongside existing assets such as Craigieburn Central Shopping Centre and the Hume Global Learning Centre. Officials have pointed to these additions as necessary to keep pace with the volume of new lots now entering the market.

Peet Limited has released 802 residential lots across the Aston Craigieburn community, including townhomes and the planned Greenline linear park. Construction on those lots is listed to start in early 2026. A separate neighbourhood centre called Aston Square at 179 Elevation Boulevard is due for completion in mid-2026 and will include shops, dining options and workspaces.

Approval Numbers and Growth Projections

Council records show 1,816 homes were approved in Craigieburn between financial years 2021 and 2025, with another 111 approvals recorded in financial year 2026. Those figures feed directly into forecasts of 47,365 additional residents by 2041. Planning panels have used the same numbers when assessing the scale of new services required inside the gazetted precinct.
