How we reported this
The Upfield Line Extension to Roxburgh Park and Craigieburn, which includes track duplication and electrification, is set to begin operations in October 2025. This follows a sequence of local infrastructure steps that began with road capacity additions several years earlier.
Road Duplication as Starting Point
The Roxburgh Park Drive Duplication covered a 1.6km section between Donald Cameron and James Mirams Drives. Completed in November 2020 at a cost of $6 million, the project added extra lanes to accommodate over 22,000 daily vehicles. That completed work addressed immediate traffic volume on one of the suburb's main routes.
Station and Rail Steps That Followed
Roxburgh Park Station received upgrades in 2025 that installed glass panel walls on shelters, added extra lighting for safety and introduced new bike hoops. Funding came through the Growth Areas Public Transport Fund. These station changes occurred ahead of the broader Upfield Line Extension, which will extend services northward with duplicated and electrified track.
Community Facility and Traffic Planning Now Underway
The Roxburgh Park Pavilion Upgrade at Lakeside Reserve will add female-friendly change facilities and accessible amenities. Completion is expected in early 2026, supported by $500,000 from the Victorian Government and over $1.75 million from Hume City Council. At the same time, Hume City Council is conducting a Local Area Traffic Management study for Roxburgh Park East, with up to $242,500 proposed in the 2026/27 budget to start implementation.
These projects connect through a pattern of successive investments that first targeted road capacity, then station facilities, and now rail service extension alongside community buildings and traffic studies. The 2020 duplication provided the initial capacity increase that later rail and local-area work can build upon.
Residents can monitor updates on the Upfield Line Extension through the listed infrastructure project pages and check Hume City Council announcements for the LATM study progress and pavilion completion timeline.
