Albert Park Community Infrastructure Programme 2026 to Influence Local Jobs and Services Ahead of Elections
Albert Park residents face changes in construction hiring and access to public facilities as candidates present positions on the programme in the lead-up to the November vote.
How we reported this
The Albert Park Community Infrastructure Programme 2026 directs city funds toward upgrades at 14 sites, including the harbour-front transit hub and three community health centres, with hiring targets set for local contractors in the construction and maintenance sectors.
The programme appears on ballots this year because the prior five-year facilities plan expires in December 2026, and city records show that 38 per cent of current maintenance contracts end within the next 18 months.
Employment Pathways for Residents
Under the programme the city will require contractors to advertise 65 per cent of new positions through the Albert Park Employment Centre, covering roles such as equipment operators and site supervisors for work scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2027.
Residents living within three kilometres of the harbour-front site will receive priority notification for training courses funded at $2.4 million in the 2026 budget papers, with sessions covering safety certification and equipment handling.
Changes to Local Services and Facilities
The same document lists replacement of the North Albert Park clinic roof and expansion of the central library branch, projects projected to keep those buildings open during weekday hours rather than closing for extended repairs.
City budget papers released in May allocate $87 million to the full programme, of which $31 million is earmarked for labour costs, figures that election materials from multiple candidates now reference when describing timelines for service continuity.
Voters will select councillors in November who will oversee the first round of contract awards, with the city clerk scheduled to publish the final project list by 15 September.
