Flemington Community Services Enhancement Policy Revises Local Grant Distribution

The Flemington mayor enacted the Community Services Enhancement Policy on July 1. The measure alters the formulas used to award operating grants to nonprofits that run food pantries, senior transport and employment readiness classes inside city limits.

Council staff completed the annual service demand assessment in May. Records from that review showed rising requests for assistance at sites located in the Riverside and east district neighborhoods during the prior twelve months.

Funding Shifts for Specific Programs

The policy raises the share of the community services fund directed to the Main Street food assistance center by 18 percent. That center currently registers an average of 310 households each month for weekly distributions. Additional dollars will support extended evening hours on Thursdays for working families in the west side zip codes.

Transportation vouchers for seniors at the Central Park hub increase from 420 to 580 per quarter under the revised schedule. The change removes a prior cap that had left 65 applicants on a waiting list in the first quarter of this year, according to the hub's intake logs.

City budget documents list the overall community services appropriation at 3.2 million dollars for fiscal year 2026. The figure is 500,000 dollars higher than the amount recorded in the 2025 closing statements.

Application Timeline and Eligibility

Nonprofit agencies must file updated grant proposals through the municipal online portal beginning July 15. The deadline for submissions is August 31. Approved awards take effect October 1 and run through September 2027.
