Pakenham Council Rates and Charges Policy Revises Residential Assessments

Changes to household payments

Renters may encounter indirect effects if landlords adjust lease terms to cover the revised amounts.
Residents who qualify for the council's pensioner rebate program keep the same discount percentage. The policy document confirms that applications for that rebate remain open until 30 September. Families with children enrolled in local schools continue to receive the existing education-related concession on the base rate.
The Pakenham Council Annual Budget 2026 lists total rates revenue at 48.7 million dollars. This figure funds 62 percent of the year's planned road resurfacing projects and 41 percent of scheduled park maintenance contracts. The budget paper ties each line item directly to the rates collected under the new policy.
Ratepayers can submit objections to their individual assessments until 15 August. Council officers will review each submission against the valuation records held by the local property office. Final bills incorporating any approved changes will arrive by mail in early September.
