Effects on Residents
Households in the eastern wards will receive new waste collection calendars effective 7 September 2026, while western districts follow on 21 September. Community centres on Harbour Street and Station Road will extend weekday hours by two each evening starting 3 November 2026, with the change applied first to centres serving the largest number of registered users.
The 2026 budget paper records an allocation of 3.8 million dollars for the operational changes. Policy analysts say the amount equals a 12 percent rise from the corresponding 2025 line item and covers additional staffing and vehicle scheduling.

The government says the policy will reach full district coverage by 1 March 2027. Resident notifications will begin distribution through postal mail in the third week of July 2026.
Applications for associated community grants open on 15 August 2026 under the legislation. Municipal staff have scheduled two information sessions at the town hall on 22 July and 29 July to explain the updated collection maps and hour changes.
