Albert Park Invests Millions to Expand Sports Facilities, Support Local Clubs

Albert Park is advancing a $350 million Formula 1 pit lane upgrade that will deliver a new indoor sports centre featuring seven multi-purpose courts and 14 new garages, with completion targeted for the 2028 Grand Prix.

Timeline for Pit Building Replacement

Demolition of the existing 1995 pit building is scheduled to begin on March 27, 2026, immediately after the 2026 Formula 1 race. This sequence allows the current facility to remain operational through the event before work on the replacement infrastructure starts.

Additional Venue Construction and Funding

Construction of a new sporting pavilion at Field 14 and 15 began in late 2025. The pavilion will permanently house the Power House Rugby Union Football Club. Separate funding supports these and related works, including a $5 million allocation from the Australian Government for the Sports Facility Improvements Project. The Victorian Government contributed $1.6 million toward energy efficiency upgrades and $275,000 for Oval 11 lighting.

Current Scale of Local Sports Use

Albert Park already hosts over 40 community sports clubs with 6,000 members participating in 16 land and water sports. These figures establish the precinct as one of Australia's most utilised sporting areas, where upgraded courts, garages and pavilions will directly increase available capacity for training and competition.

The projects build on existing usage patterns without altering club operations during the transition. Local organisations can continue scheduling activities around the demolition and construction phases while the new indoor centre and pavilion come online in future years.
