Box Hill Venues Support Growing Student-Athlete Programs Through Education Partnerships

Box Hill Senior Secondary College and the Hawthorn College of Sport operate as the main institutions offering structured sport pathways for students, backed by dedicated facilities and schedules that fit within school routines.

School-Based Academies and Training

Box Hill Senior Secondary College pioneered Australia's first school-based Academy sport programs in 1995 for Basketball, AFL/AFLW, and Tennis. Its Academy training sessions occur during regular school hours from 9am to 3pm with no weekend or after-school requirements, operating as a voluntary but compulsory-fee extra-curricular program for talented student-athletes.

New Diploma Program at Hawthorn

The Hawthorn College of Sport, launched by Hawthorn Football Club and Box Hill Institute in partnership, offers a dual diploma in Sport and Leadership/Management. This program includes over 100 hours of practical immersion at Hawthorn's elite facilities and provides a new pathway to credit points at Deakin University.

Box Hill City Oval Developments

Box Hill City Oval, home to the Box Hill Hawks VFL team, reopened in May 2026 with a new playing surface and synthetic track. The new two-storey West Pavilion at the venue is expected to complete in mid-2027, adding to the infrastructure available for local sport activities.
