Broadmeadows Clubs Launch Inclusive Sports Leagues for All Ages
Facilities and programs at Seabrook Reserve and Broadmeadows Basketball Stadium support participation across ages and abilities.
How we reported this
The $22 million State Rugby League and Community Centre at Seabrook Reserve opened in May 2024 as the new headquarters for NRL Victoria and home for Melbourne Storm pathway programs along with the Northern Thunder club.
This development matters because it adds dedicated space for local rugby league activities in a city with established community sports options. The centre sits at Seabrook Reserve on Goulburn Street and joins existing venues that already host basketball and football programs for residents of all ages and skill levels.
Basketball Association Runs Programs for All Ages
The Broadmeadows Basketball Association operates community competitions that include junior programs and senior competitive and social options. Teams from the association take part in VJBL and BIG V leagues. The TLS Basketball Club participates in these competitions, which cover all ages and skill levels across BIG V, VJBL and domestic formats.
One weekly offering is the Broadmeadows All-Abilities Basketball Program held at Broadmeadows Basketball Stadium on 26-28 Dimboola Rd. The session runs Mondays from 5:00-5:45pm for children aged 5-17 with disabilities or additional support needs. The Broadmeadows Basketball Association also runs the No Hoopla program that provides free weekly basketball sessions for women in the area.
Rugby League and Football Leagues Add All-Abilities Options
NRL Victoria hosts free community holiday clinics at Seabrook Reserve that introduce non-contact rugby league skills and training drills to primary school children. The Reclink Football League runs an all-abilities, all-gender community football competition with fortnightly games during the football season and come-and-try events at Craigieburn Sports Stadium.
The Broadmeadows Sporting Club, established in 1973, has donated over $1.1 million to local community and sporting groups since 1993. This support helps sustain clubs that operate the basketball, rugby league and football programs across the city.
Residents interested in joining can contact the Broadmeadows Basketball Association or visit Seabrook Reserve to learn about current sessions and registration details for the leagues and clinics already operating at these venues.
