Northern Thunder Rugby League Club Becomes Broadmeadows Sports Hub, Houses NRL Victoria
The local club now operates from a dedicated facility that also serves as NRL Victoria headquarters.
How we reported this
The Northern Thunder rugby league club has its home at the State Rugby League and Community Centre at Seabrook Reserve in Broadmeadows. The centre opened in May 2024 as a $22 million facility that also functions as headquarters for NRL Victoria.
New Base for Northern Thunder
Northern Thunder shares the purpose-built venue with NRL Victoria operations. The arrangement places the club inside a purpose-designed rugby league environment rather than relying on shared or temporary grounds. Primary school children attend the annual free Community League Stars Holiday Clinics run by NRL Victoria at the same reserve, where they learn non-contact skills.
Basketball Programs Operating Alongside
Broadmeadows Basketball Stadium runs the Helping Hoops and Broadmeadows All-Abilities Basketball Programs for children aged 5 to 17 with disabilities. The Broadmeadows Basketball Association separately runs the free weekly No Hoopla program that engages 400 women of all ages and abilities in community basketball.
Long-Term Local Funding Record
The Broadmeadows Sporting Club, established in 1973, has donated over $1.1 million to local community and sporting groups since 1993. These contributions continue to support sport across the surrounding area while the new rugby league centre and the basketball programs operate in parallel.
Residents can check the Hume City Council leisure pages or the Broadmeadows Sporting Club site for current session times and clinic schedules at the listed venues. Participation details remain available through the organisations that run each program.
