Clayton High School Athletics Clubs Build Thriving Community for Young Athletes
Local sports groups in Clayton use school facilities and amateur leagues to connect residents around youth athletics.
How we reported this
Clayton County approved a $246 million North Clayton High School project that includes a $17.6 million indoor football practice facility set for completion in July 2027.
The project arrives as schools across the county address rising student anxiety through new wellness initiatives. Clayton High School already opened a metro-area Wellness Center that provides daily essentials, 10-minute brain breaks and crisis support from licensed mental health specialists.
Facilities expand access
New courts at Carlson Reserve in Clayton, Victoria, opened in May 2024 at a cost of $726,310 and now host tennis, futsal, pickleball, netball and basketball. The Clayton Community Park in Clayton, Missouri, added tennis and pickleball courts plus bocce and shuffleboard courts during its March 2024 expansion.
These additions give high school athletes and community clubs shared spaces for regular play. Rainbow Lanes in Clayton, NC, continues to run TNBA amateur bowling leagues with teams such as Holy Rollers and Slinging Seniors.
Standings reflect steady participation
In the Clayton Bocce and Cornhole 2026 Spring Bocce League, Advance Auto Body held first place in Group F with a 23-4 record as of the June 6 update. Chewbocce led Group G at 19-8 after the June 5 standings release.
Clayton County Public Schools became the first district to roll out the Mindful Awareness program through Inner Explorer, with plans to reach all 67 schools by next year. The program pairs with existing athletic offerings to support student mental health.
Residents can check current league schedules at Rainbow Lanes or visit the new courts at Carlson Reserve to join ongoing community play.
