Craigieburn clubs unite students, families through expanding athletics programs
Craigieburn Secondary College teams and Little Athletics Centre programs connect students and families across multiple seasons and venues.
How we reported this
Craigieburn Secondary College fields teams in divisional athletics alongside volleyball, basketball and soccer, with squads advancing to Northern Regional Soccer and Athletics competitions.
School programs feed club growth
The college runs an annual Athletics Carnival in Term 2 and a Swimming Carnival in February, routes that feed selections for divisional and regional events. Students also compete in inter-house athletics, swimming and cross country across the four houses named Aitken, Ridley, Bridgewater and Hume. These school fixtures overlap with the Craigieburn Little Athletics Centre winter cross country season that runs April to August and the summer track and field season from September to March.
Local clubs gain participants directly from these school pathways. The Little Athletics Centre operates weekly Saturday competitions and Friday Twilight events at Vic Foster Reserve for children aged 5 to 16, while the Sprint Athletics Centre provides free public track access during daylight hours.
Volunteer leadership sustains participation
Jesse Littlehales has served more than 11 years as Head Coach at Craigieburn Little Athletics Centre and was named Hume Young Sports and Recreation Leader after working with more than 300 athletes. The centre’s programs sit alongside community offerings at Craigieburn Sports Stadium, which hosts basketball, netball and volleyball sessions used by multiple local clubs.
Families seeking to join can contact the Craigieburn Little Athletics Centre or Craigieburn Secondary College sports coordinators to confirm current registration windows and house allocation details.
