How we reported this
Craigieburn Sports Stadium opened its $17.8 million Stage 1 upgrade in February 2024, adding three new multisport courts to reach a total of eight and creating 80 extra parking spaces at 127 Craigieburn Road.
The investment matters because the stadium serves over 1,600 players from associations that include the Craigieburn Eagles Basketball Club, established in 1977, and hosts leagues such as the Reclink Football League for all abilities.
Named venues and access changes
Hume City Council owns the stadium and manages entry through the back entrance at Newbold Avenue while Craigieburn Road works continue, a restriction in place since July 2024. Nearby, the Craigieburn Falcons Hockey Club has operated from Hume Hockey Club at 450 Grand Boulevard since its affiliation with Hockey Victoria in 2016. A separate $1.8 million Hume Hockey and Lacrosse Pavilion at Newbury Park opened to address venue gaps in the north-west.
Craigieburn City FC, founded in 2013 with more than 700 registered players, uses the stadium for its teams, including sides in the 2024-25 State League 2 North-West.
Contracted works and player numbers
In October 2024 the council awarded a $6.25 million contract for Stage 2 of the Hume Hockey and Lacrosse Centre, which will deliver a second synthetic pitch and new pavilion with completion expected in late 2026. The stadium already supports basketball, netball and volleyball programs alongside the Eagles club’s Victorian Junior Basketball League and Big V competitions.
Residents can check current access rules and program schedules through Hume City Council channels or the stadium operator before visiting 127 Craigieburn Road or the Grand Boulevard site.
