Deer Park's First Youth Flag Football League Concludes Successful Five-Week Season

Deer Park’s first-ever NFL Youth Flag Football League ended its inaugural season on April 25 with games at the Dow Athletic Soccer Fields, part of the Dow Active Complex, the city confirmed. The league, open to boys and girls ages 6 through 14, ran from March 21 to April 25 and marked the first time the city hosted a flag football program under the NFL’s official youth banner.

How the season played out

Organizers split participants into age-based divisions and held games on Saturdays. While the city has not released final standings or playoff results, parents and volunteers described a season focused on fundamentals, handing off, catching, and learning flag-pulling technique, rather than hard-nosed competition. The league drew enough registrants to fill multiple teams in each age bracket, according to city recreation staff.

The Dow Athletic Soccer Fields, located at the Dow Active Complex, served as the primary game site. The complex already hosts seasonal community sports leagues in volleyball, pickleball, adult and youth basketball, and cornhole, city records show. Adding flag football gave Deer Park families a new option during the spring sports window, when baseball, softball, and soccer typically dominate field usage.

Deer Park Elite Athletics, a local sports organization, runs an outdoor summer basketball league separately at the complex, emphasizing skill development and teamwork for all ages. The new flag football program complements that offering without overlapping schedules.

The league’s launch fills a gap in Deer Park’s youth sports lineup. Until this year, flag football was not offered as a city-run program for elementary and middle-school children. The NFL Youth Flag Football League provides a structured, low-contact alternative to tackle football at a time when many parents are seeking safer entry points to the sport.

The program also aligns with a broader push by Deer Park’s recreation department to diversify its seasonal offerings. The Dow Active Complex already runs leagues for volleyball, pickleball, adult and youth basketball, and cornhole. Deer Park, Texas has not disclosed its fee schedule for the flag football league, but recreation officials said the pricing was designed to be competitive with private club programs.
