Doncaster Athletes Gain New Training Access Via Local Skills Programs
Workforce programs expand options for residents involved in the city's sport scene.

DN Colleges Group launched its Summer of Skills campaign in June 2026 with more than 65 flexible courses in health, digital skills and leadership.
The move comes as Doncaster maintains its reputation for a vibrant sport scene where clubs and athletes seek practical ways to build supporting skills alongside training. Local workforce efforts now include routes that align with those needs, giving participants access to courses that cover areas useful for team operations and personal development.
Workforce programs already in place
Doncaster Council's Workforce Development Team runs adult social care workforce training through the Developing You platform and is updating its Adults Workforce Strategy in 2026. A new online employment hub offers a single access point for residents to find jobs, develop skills or become self-employed, with phone support available 10am to 1pm on weekdays.
Skills & Employability South Yorkshire, part-funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, supports employment and skills for individuals and businesses across Doncaster. These existing structures provide the base for athletes and club staff to combine sport commitments with recognised training.
Links to earlier agreements
The Council's Local Labour Agreement, adopted in August 2023, secures Employment and Training Skills Plans for development projects to upskill local people, particularly in construction. Residents already connected to sport clubs can use the same access points to explore how broader skills programmes fit around training schedules.
