Technology deployment is moving from utility-scale grids to the residential sector. In the UK, a £7m project is currently underway to provide energy efficiency upgrades to 865 homes across the North East. As part of this effort, 10 properties in Berwick (UK) are receiving comprehensive retrofits, including the installation of air source heat pumps and solar panels. These direct home interventions coincide with massive energy projects on the horizon, such as the Berwick Bank offshore wind farm in Scotland.
With a planned capacity of 4.1 GW, the Berwick Bank project is positioned as one of the world's largest renewable installations. Projections indicate the wind farm will be capable of powering over six million homes once fully operational, effectively offsetting 8 million tonnes of carbon dioxide each year.
