Residents walking through the Lodge area or shopping in the town centre now encounter bins that stay contained longer. The sensors collate fill data and forward it automatically, which improves how collection teams plan their days and reduces the chance of waste sitting out in warm weather.
Limited Scope Keeps Focus on Core Streets
No wider IoT network or smart city cluster operates in North Berwick at present, so the impact stays tied to these five locations. The stations replace older bins at key spots and operate on the same streets that locals pass each day for work, errands or leisure.
East Lothian Council receives the alerts and adjusts routes accordingly, which trims fuel use and crew hours while keeping the same level of service. The result is streets that stay cleaner between visits without added equipment elsewhere in town.
North Berwick in Bloom continues to support the project as part of its regular maintenance efforts.
