Box Hill Tech Training Centers Expand Skills Access for 1,000+ Residents

Box Hill Institute continues to strengthen its ICT investments while Planet Innovation operates a development and manufacturing centre at 436 Elgar Road focused on medical and hi-tech products.

These developments sit inside the only designated Metropolitan Activity Centre in the eastern region, where nearly 18,500 workers already hold office-based roles. The Suburban Rail Loop East project will add an underground station that planners expect to support employment growth in health, office and retail sectors through 2041. Residents now face shorter travel times between training sites, job locations and home addresses once the station opens.

Training programs reach more households

Box Hill Institute previously served as the Super Cisco Academy training centre for the Asia-Pacific region. It now runs expanded ICT programs that prepare participants for roles in network management and medical device support. The 2021 census recorded 46.6 percent of local residents with Chinese heritage, a demographic that supplies both students and potential clients for the new courses. People living near Whitehorse Road can attend evening or weekend sessions without long commutes, then apply the skills directly to nearby employers.

Manufacturing site changes product access

Planet Innovation’s centre at 436 Elgar Road produces medical and hi-tech items on site. Local clinicians and technicians gain faster access to prototypes and replacement parts that previously required longer supply chains. Office workers in the high-rise buildings around the activity centre report more frequent collaboration with the firm on device testing and software integration. The combination of on-site production and institute training shortens the time between learning a skill and using it in a paid position.

The rail loop station will further link these sites to surrounding neighbourhoods.
