Broadmeadows Tech Scene Relies on Digital Literacy Hubs for Skill Building

Yooralla’s Community Access Hub runs a Digital Lab every Wednesday and Thursday at 182 Widford Street in Broadmeadows, giving participants hands-on help with digital tools that feed directly into local tech work.

The city’s tech and startup activity depends on residents gaining basic computer and online skills. Without those foundations, people cannot move into coding workshops, app testing roles or freelance digital services that now form part of Broadmeadows daily business. The programs at the hub and the library therefore sit at the entry point for anyone looking to join that scene.

Named venues and their current offerings

Hume City Council runs Broadmeadows Library inside the Hume Global Learning Centre, where staff deliver digital and technology sessions for young people and adults while also maintaining collections in several community languages. The same centre works alongside Yooralla’s weekly lab to keep equipment and staff available on consecutive days. Northstar Digital Literacy supplies free beginner assessments and short courses in Basic Computer Skills, Email, Microsoft Word and Career Search Skills that learners can complete before moving into more advanced startup-related tasks.

GCF LearnFree lists more than 2,000 free lessons and 800 videos on Microsoft Office, online safety and general computer skills. DigitalLearn.org supplies dozens of library-backed modules on search, website navigation, email and Facebook that new users complete at their own pace. Both platforms are accessible from the same Broadmeadows locations, so participants can practise immediately after a lab session.
