Coburg is reinforcing its position as a key technology hub, with local digital infrastructure and startup initiatives focusing heavily on the next generation of artificial intelligence and process automation. The city’s digital growth is anchored by Zukunft.Coburg.Digital, which manages the Alte Kühlhalle in Coburg and the Digitale Manufaktur in Rödental. These facilities act as central nodes for the region’s innovation, supporting approximately 11 companies currently refining scalable digital business models.
Building the Infrastructure for AI
The roadmap for regional development is increasingly defined by knowledge-sharing events. On July 9, 2026, the local tech community convened at the Digitale Manufaktur for the 'Pitch & Beer 2026' event, a recurring series designed to connect emerging founders with established stakeholders. This follows a broader trend of technical engagement, building on the success of the 'IT-Forum Oberfranken 2025' (ITFO 2025), which held a free conference on Data Science and AI at the Hochschule Coburg on March 12, 2025.
Technical skill-building remains a primary focus for the second half of the year. The next 'Vibe & Code' workshop, centered on AI automation and website building, is set for September 24, 2026, at the Alte Kühlhalle. These sessions are intended to translate high-level research from the university level into practical, market-ready digital applications for local businesses.
Hardware and Data Convergence
The practical application of digital tools is also being fostered through makerspaces and collaborative research environments. The CREAPOLIS Makerspace at the Hochschule Coburg, located at Schlachthofstr. 1, continues to host open events such as the 'Maker Meetup Vol. 18', which took place on October 29, 2024. Such venues serve as vital testing grounds for projects that overlap with the needs of the region's established industrial sectors, including machinery and automotive engineering.
This ongoing activity signals a long-term commitment to maintaining Coburg as a competitive technology Standort. With major regional employers like KAESER Kompressoren, ELEO, HUK-COBURG, and FUTURE SYSTEMS actively involved in the innovation pipeline-evidenced by the 40 participants who joined the 2025 'CODEBURG Hackathon'-the focus for the coming months remains on integrating data analysis and process optimization into the region’s traditional manufacturing strengths. Founders and developers are encouraged to utilize the co-working spaces and meeting rooms available at sites like the Villa am alten Schlachthof to sustain this momentum into the final quarter of the year.
