Local Tours Expand Across Altona's Dockside Quarter and Waterfront
New routes through the Dockside Quarter and guided sessions at the Altona Waterfront Promenade highlight this season's offerings.
How we reported this

Altona Experience Guides launched three new walking tours on July 10 that focus on the city's riverfront industrial sites and evening market circuits.
Interest in these tours has grown as residents seek structured ways to spend time outdoors during the peak summer period, when daytime temperatures often reach 28 degrees Celsius.
The Altona Tourism Board coordinates the programs, which include stops at the 19th-century warehouses along Maple Avenue and the restored grain elevators in the Dockside Quarter. Harbor Adventures runs a parallel boat option that departs from Pier 14 every morning at 9:30 and covers the same waterfront stretch in 90 minutes.
Route Details and Stops
Participants on the Dockside Quarter route visit the old rail yard at 42nd Street before ending at Central Plaza, where the Grand Altona Market operates on Tuesdays and Fridays. The market features 65 vendor stalls selling local produce and crafts, drawing an average of 4,200 visitors each market day last July.
Prices for the walking tours start at $32 per adult, with a $12 rate for children under 12. Advance bookings for the first two weeks of August already stand at 1,800 slots, according to the tourism board's online reservation system.
Booking and Next Steps
Tickets can be purchased through the Altona Experience Guides website or at the information kiosk on Elm Street. Walk-up spots remain available for the 6 p.m. market tours on Fridays, though the boat departures require reservations at least 48 hours ahead.
Updated schedules appear each Monday on the tourism board's site, with additional sunset options added for the last week of July.
