Altona's Beaches, Trails and Parks Draw Swimmers, Fishers and Walkers
Altona offers beaches, trails and parks for swimming, fishing and walking.
How we reported this

The 23-kilometer Hobrons Bay Coastal Trail runs along the western coastline, passing through Altona and offering views of Port Phillip Bay for walking and cycling.
Residents turn to these local routes and shorelines for daily exercise and recreation. The trail system connects directly to the foreshore areas, allowing people to combine time on the water with time on foot or bike without leaving the district.
Shoreline options
Altona Beach provides pristine sands and calm waters for swimming, kitesurfing, skiing and volleyball. The beach draws kitesurfers regularly. The new 310-meter Altona Pier features a Y-shaped design with an accessible low landing suited for fishing, walking and viewing the city skyline and Port Phillip Bay.
Park and lake circuits
Cherry Lake Park includes a 3.5-kilometer walking and cycling trail around the lake, a large playground, BBQ facilities and a bird hide for scenic views. Truganina Park Trail and Laverton Creek Spit Walk forms a 4km one-hour loop starting at Apex Park and covering Altona Foreshore, Laverton Creek and Truganina Park.
These distances appear in local trail descriptions that list the Hobrons Bay route at 23 kilometers and the Cherry Lake circuit at 3.5 kilometers. The Altona Pier measures 310 meters in the project records.
Visitors can start at Apex Park for the 4km loop or head to the pier for fishing access. Check tide times before water activities and bring water on longer walks along the coastal trail.
