Berwick Residents Discover New Menus Across Multiple Neighborhoods This July

Three new restaurants opened in Berwick on July 10, adding 180 seats to the Riverside District alone.

The timing aligns with peak summer demand, when outdoor tables fill faster and supply costs for imported ingredients have climbed 12 percent since May. City planners approved the permits in late June after reviewing traffic data from the previous quarter that showed a 22 percent rise in evening foot traffic along the riverfront.

The Grove, located at 88 River Street, serves wood-grilled seafood and shares a courtyard with the existing Berwick Market Hall. Two blocks east, Pier 9 at 15 Harbour Walk focuses on small plates and operates under the city’s Berwick Eats program, which provides reduced licensing fees for venues that source at least 30 percent of produce from regional farms. Both sites opened after the council’s June 25 meeting cleared final inspections.

City records show that Berwick restaurants generated $14.7 million in taxable sales during June, according to the Chamber of Commerce report issued July 3. Average entrée prices at new openings range from $22 to $34, while established spots list mains between $18 and $28. The same report noted that patio reservations through the first week of July already exceeded totals from the same period in 2025 by 31 percent.

New openings this month

The Grove offers a rotating raw bar and a fixed-price lunch at $28 that includes two courses and a non-alcoholic drink. Diners reach the space via the pedestrian bridge from Market Lane, where parking is limited to two-hour meters until 8 p.m. Pier 9 opens at 5 p.m. daily and features a walk-up counter for takeaway oysters priced at $3 each on weekdays. Both kitchens close at 10 p.m. on weeknights and 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

Established venues still drawing crowds

Flour & Vine at 112 Oak Street continues its weekday lunch service with a $16 sandwich-and-soup combo that has remained unchanged since 2024. The restaurant sits two doors from the Uptown transit hub, making it convenient for commuters. Harvest Kitchen on Elm Avenue, part of the same Berwick Eats cohort, runs a Thursday farmers-market pop-up from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. where vendors sell produce used in the evening menu. Reservations for both locations can be made through their websites or by calling the listed numbers posted on exterior signs.

Anyone planning a visit should check online reservation systems before 4 p.m. on the day of travel, as same-day tables at the new spots have already sold out on three evenings this week. Public transit schedules on the Riverside line run until midnight, giving diners an option that avoids parking fees near the riverfront.
