Maltings Trust Keeps Berwick's Arts Scene Alive During Major Redevelopment
The Maltings Trust keeps film screenings, galleries and festivals running at multiple sites while the main venue undergoes redevelopment.
How we reported this

The 21st Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival ran from Friday March 20 to Sunday March 22 2026 with digital cinema screenings and live events at venues across Berwick-upon-Tweed.
The closure of The Maltings for a £28.4 million redevelopment has shifted programming to other locations yet the Maltings Trust continues to operate three sites and stage more than 600 events each year.
Programming at alternative sites
During the redevelopment film screenings moved to the Maltings Cinema at Berwick Barracks while visual arts exhibitions remain at The Granary Gallery. The Gymnasium Gallery forms the third part of the trust's network and hosts regular displays even without the main theatre building.
Art at Etal continues as a monthly pop-up fair on the second Wednesday of each month from April to October at Etal Village Hall in the Ford and Etal area near Berwick-upon-Tweed.
