Epping’s nightlife comes down to a pair of clubs sharing the same Cottis Lane address, but offering two very different ways to stay out late. Villa and Club 195, both at 199 Cottis Lane behind the High Street, dominate the town’s social scene-one a relative newcomer with a reputation for celebrities, the other a long-running fixture with a funky, trend-driven vibe.

The distinction matters more than ever now, as Londoners look beyond the Zone 1-2 tube map for nights out that don’t require a 40-minute Uber home. Epping sits 12 miles from central London on the Central Line, with both clubs a short walk from the station, making it a realistic late-night option for commuters who want to keep dancing past the last train.

Villa: Late licence, early cred

Villa opened in June 2012 and has already hosted a stream of musicians and actors, according to local venue listings. It holds a late licence until 4:30 am on Fridays and Saturdays, which gives it the edge for anyone who isn’t ready to call it a night after last orders. Club 195, by contrast, is described as funky and trendy, with a long-standing presence on the Epping scene that predates Villa’s arrival-though neither venue publishes a precise opening year.

Both clubs sit in what local guides call the “Golden Triangle,” a catch-all term for the high-end lifestyle corridor that stretches across parts of Essex and Hertfordshire. The area’s affluence and its excellent Central Line tube links mean Epping’s nightlife pulls from a radius well beyond the town boundary. Taxis queue outside the station most weekend evenings, but the walk is safe and well lit. Parking near the High Street is limited, especially after 9 pm, so the train remains the smarter move if you plan on hitting Villa’s 4:30 am licence.
