Croydon’s Best Free Outdoor Gyms and Fitness Circuits
Residents head to parks across the borough for equipment and circuits that cost nothing to use.
How we reported this

Croydon Council installed new pull-up bars and parallel dips at Wandle Park last spring, drawing steady crowds of walkers and runners who stop for 20-minute sessions before heading home along Waddon New Road.
Interest in these spots has grown since membership fees at private gyms in the town centre climbed above £45 a month in early 2025. Many locals now meet at the same hours each week to share space on the equipment rather than pay for indoor classes.
Two circuits that draw daily users
The trim trail at Lloyd Park starts near the café on Coombe Road and runs for 1.2 kilometres through grass and tree cover, with stations for step-ups, balance beams and press-ups. A separate set of stations at Ashburton Park, off Lower Addiscombe Road, includes leg-raise bars and a rowing simulator added by the council’s parks team in 2024. Both locations sit within a ten-minute bus ride of East Croydon station.
Council figures released in June 2026 recorded 2,800 visits to the Wandle Park gym in May alone, up from 1,900 the same month a year earlier. The same report showed that 62 per cent of users arrived on foot or by bicycle, keeping the facilities free of any entry charge.
Practical steps before heading out
Arrive before 8 a.m. on weekdays to avoid queues at the most popular stations. Bring a towel and water bottle, as no lockers are provided at either park. Check the Croydon Council website the night before for any temporary closures due to maintenance, which are posted by 7 p.m. each evening.
Local running groups sometimes gather at the Lloyd Park trail on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 6:30 p.m., though the equipment remains open to anyone at all other times.
