Deer Park Groups Schedule Summer Fun Runs, Charity Walks Starting July
Deer Park groups have lined up a series of runs and walks that start in mid-July and draw participants from across the Oakwood and Willow neighborhoods.
How we reported this
Three group fitness events open for registration this week in Deer Park, with the first event set for July 20 at the Deer Park Pavilion on Oak Street.
Summer daylight hours and steady participation numbers have prompted local organizers to add more morning and evening sessions than last year. The Deer Park Wellness Collective reported 620 sign-ups across its 2025 events, a figure that exceeded the prior season by 18 percent.
Event lineup and routes
The Deer Park Runners Club hosts a 5K fun run that starts at the Pavilion on Oak Street and loops twice through the adjacent Elm Avenue greenway before finishing at the same point. The Heart Health Foundation schedules a 3-mile charity walk on July 27 that begins at the entrance to the Lakeside Trail in the Willow neighborhood and ends at the Community Gardens on Pine Road. A third event, an evening group walk led by the Deer Park Wellness Collective, takes place August 3 along the same trail system.
Each event caps attendance at 500 to keep group sizes manageable on the shared paths. Organizers set the entry fee at $22 for adults and $12 for participants under 18, with all proceeds directed to local trail maintenance funds.
Sign-up and preparation steps
Registration opens online at 9 a.m. on July 12 through the Deer Park Parks and Recreation portal. Participants receive a numbered bib and water bottle on arrival. Anyone new to group exercise can attend a free orientation walk at the Pavilion on July 18 at 6:30 p.m. to learn the route and pace options. Residents should check with a local medical professional before joining if they have questions about their own fitness level.
