Local Epping Cooks Transform Winter Produce Into Five Energy-Boosting Meals
Epping cooks can turn winter vegetables and citrus from nearby growers into quick meals that support steady energy levels through the colder months.
How we reported this
Epping residents gained access this week to five new seasonal recipes built around produce now in peak supply at markets along Oxford Road and near the train station.
July marks the height of the local citrus and root vegetable harvest, which matters because shorter days often reduce outdoor activity for the 12,400 people tracked in the Epping Wellness Survey conducted last month.
The Epping Community Garden on Bridge Street and the weekly stall run by the Epping Growers Collective on High Street both reported strong supplies of oranges, kale and carrots at the July 6 market day.
Prices recorded at those sites showed kale bunches at $3.50 and a 2-kilogram bag of carrots for $4.80, figures drawn from the collective’s July price sheet dated 2026.
Simple winter dishes from current stock
One recipe combines roasted carrots with orange segments and a light tahini drizzle for a side that serves four and takes 35 minutes. Another uses kale, potato and leek in a one-pot soup seasoned only with local garlic. A third turns blood oranges and fennel into a salad topped with toasted walnuts. The fourth folds grated carrot and spinach into oat-based breakfast muffins. The fifth steams cauliflower with cumin and serves it over barley for a filling lunch.
Each dish draws directly from items confirmed in stock at the Bridge Street garden and the High Street stall this week.
Shoppers can collect printed copies of the five recipes at the Epping Health Hub on Beecroft Road starting Thursday, where staff will also run a short demonstration on July 10 at 10 a.m.
Next, residents can test one recipe this weekend using produce bought at either listed site and note any changes in how they feel after the meal.
