Interest in sleep tracking has risen in the suburb as more locals join wellness programs that tie rest quality to daily energy and focus. The shift follows broader patterns seen in cities such as London where similar clinics reported a 22 percent increase in referrals between 2024 and 2025.
Essendon facilities detail their services
The Essendon Sleep Centre operates from a converted medical suite at 45 Mount Alexander Road and runs studies seven nights a week. Staff attach sensors to record oxygen levels, heart rate and leg movements for eight-hour sessions. A second site, the North Essendon Assessment Unit on Keilor Road, offers daytime nap studies for shift workers and uses portable kits that patients take home for two-night recordings.
Both locations accept referrals from general practitioners in the area and forward raw data to sleep physicians for scoring within five business days. The unit on Keilor Road also runs a monthly group session on the first Tuesday that covers bedroom setup and light exposure timing.
Costs and participation numbers
A 2025 Essendon health district audit found 34 percent of adults aged 35 to 64 reported fewer than six hours of sleep on most nights. Overnight clinic studies at the Mount Alexander Road centre cost $480 out of pocket after Medicare rebate, while home kits from the Keilor Road unit run $310. Bookings for both sites have climbed from 48 studies in January to 79 in June.
Residents can call either clinic directly for an initial phone screen or ask their doctor for a referral form. Slots for the coming fortnight remain available at both addresses, with the next group session scheduled for 4 August at the Keilor Road site.
