Greensborough Council Launches Free Fitness Classes for 60-Plus Residents
The Greensborough City Council runs no-cost exercise classes for residents aged 60 and over at multiple sites across the suburb.
How we reported this

The Greensborough City Council has added three new weekly sessions to its free senior fitness program, with classes now running at the Greensborough Community Centre on Grimshaw Street and along the Plenty River Trail near Watsonia Road.
July marks the start of the council’s winter schedule, when many older residents seek structured activity to maintain mobility during shorter days and cooler mornings. Council records show participation in these programs rose from 142 people in July 2025 to 189 this month, reflecting steady local demand rather than any external trend.
Venues and session times
Classes at the Greensborough Community Centre begin at 9:30 a.m. each Tuesday and Thursday with chair-based strength work followed by balance drills. On Wednesdays the same instructors lead a 45-minute walking group that starts at the trail entrance opposite Watsonia Road and finishes at the picnic shelter in Plenty Park. Both locations offer free parking and nearby bus stops on Route 902.
The council first launched the program in 2023 after a local health audit found 28 percent of residents over 60 reported limited daily movement. No fees apply, though participants must register once through the council’s online portal or at the Civic Centre counter on Main Street.
Next steps for residents
Anyone aged 60 or over who lives in Greensborough can sign up by visiting the council website or calling 9433 7100 before the next session. New attendees receive a printed timetable and a safety checklist at their first class. Spaces fill quickly, so early registration is advised for the July and August blocks.
