Keilor Council Launches Free Senior Fitness Programs at Two Venues
Keilor City Council now runs no-cost group exercise sessions for older adults at two fixed venues with set weekly schedules.
How we reported this

Keilor City Council launched free senior fitness programs on 1 July with classes held at the Keilor Recreation Reserve on McNab Avenue and the Keilor Community Centre on Milleara Road.
Local demand has grown because many residents in Keilor East and Keilor North report limited access to paid gyms and seek regular movement without added expense. Council records show the number of residents aged 65 and over rose by 12 percent between 2023 and 2025, prompting the shift to fully subsidised sessions.
Venues and weekly schedule
At the Keilor Recreation Reserve, instructors lead balance and strength circuits every Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 in the morning on the grassed oval near the playground. The Keilor Community Centre hosts seated aerobics and light resistance work on Mondays and Wednesdays at 11 a.m. inside the main hall, using chairs and resistance bands supplied by the council. Both sites include a five-minute walk from nearby bus stops on Old Calder Highway, allowing residents from Keilor Village to attend without driving.
Each class caps at 25 participants to keep spacing safe on the mats. Instructors record attendance on paper sheets collected at the end of every session and submitted to the council’s parks and recreation office on the same day.
Numbers and next steps
Registration data released by the council on 7 July lists 187 seniors enrolled across the four weekly classes. That figure exceeds the 142 participants recorded in the same month last year when a $7 fee applied. No equipment purchase is required, and water stations are supplied at both venues. Residents can sign up by calling the Keilor City Council community programs line at 9301 7000 or by visiting the front desk at the Milleara Road centre with proof of address. Spots fill on a first-come basis each quarter, with the next intake opening on 1 October.
