Moorabbin's Top Walking Trails Rated by Distance and Difficulty
Council maps released last month rank three local paths by length and grade for daily use.
How we reported this

Three trails inside Moorabbin parks received fresh difficulty ratings from the Kingston City Council trail audit completed on 2 July 2026.
Residents have increased outdoor activity since the June heatwave warnings, and local parks now record higher foot traffic on weekday mornings. The audit responds to that shift by grading each route on total distance and elevation change so walkers can match routes to fitness levels without leaving the suburb.
Short flat loops
The Wickham Road circuit inside Moorabbin Gardens measures 2.8 kilometres with no noticeable incline and begins at the car park near the playground. Walkers pass the community garden beds maintained by the Moorabbin Garden Club, which holds its monthly working bee on the third Saturday. A second option runs along the fenced edge of Moorabbin Memorial Park on Rowans Road for 3.1 kilometres; the surface is sealed bitumen and remains lit until 9 pm under the council night-safety program introduced in 2024.
Both loops sit under five kilometres and carry an easy rating. Entry is free, though the Rowans Road overflow lot charges two dollars for stays longer than two hours on weekends.
Longer graded routes
The longest marked trail starts at the southern gate of Moorabbin Park and follows the old drainage reserve for 6.4 kilometres before returning via Brolga Street. The route includes one gentle rise of 18 metres near the Brolga Street bridge. Council counters recorded 4,872 passes on this path during the March quarter, the highest single-trail total in the suburb. A moderate 4.9-kilometre option circles the perimeter of the adjacent Dingley Reserve extension that borders Moorabbin, crossing twice under the railway line and finishing at the fitness station installed by the Moorabbin Active Living program in late 2025.
Walkers planning either longer route are advised to check the Kingston City Council website for any temporary closures after heavy rain and to carry water, as the only public tap sits at the Wickham Road entrance. The next trail audit update is scheduled for October.
