Moorabbin Council Facilities Launch Regular Group Exercise Classes
Council facilities across Moorabbin run regular group sessions that draw steady crowds seeking structured movement at set times and prices.
How we reported this
Moorabbin City Council facilities have expanded their group exercise timetable for July 2026, adding extra morning slots at two main sites to meet demand from residents on South Road and nearby streets.
Residents report turning to these classes after network disruptions earlier this week left many without reliable phone or payment options for private gyms. The council timetable lists fixed start times and instructor-led formats that require no advance booking beyond a simple sign-in sheet at the front desk.
Venues and class formats
The Moorabbin Recreation Centre on South Road runs circuit classes on Mondays and Wednesdays at 6:30am, using the indoor track and weight area. A separate yoga session meets there on Tuesdays at 9am in the main hall. Further east, the Highett Sports Complex on Graham Road offers aqua aerobics in its 25-metre pool every Thursday at 7pm and a strength circuit on Saturdays at 8am. Both centres sit within a short drive or bike ride from the Moorabbin railway station precinct.
These programs fall under the council’s Active Moorabbin initiative, which coordinates instructors and equipment across its three leisure sites. Participants move between the two venues without extra cost if they hold a current concession or full membership card.
Costs and participation numbers
Single sessions cost $12 for concession holders and $18 for others, with a ten-visit pass priced at $100. Council figures released in June 2026 show 620 attendances across these classes in the previous three months, up 14 per cent from the same period in 2025. The increase tracks with residents seeking lower-cost options after house prices remained near double their 2016 levels.
Classes run in air-conditioned rooms or heated pools, with instructors providing modifications for different fitness levels. No equipment is needed beyond what the centres supply, and sessions last 45 to 60 minutes.
Residents can check the current timetable on the Moorabbin City Council website or collect a printed copy at either centre’s reception. New participants are advised to arrive 15 minutes early to complete a basic health form and confirm the session location on the day.
