Local Point Cook Markets Offer Five Winter Recipes Now
Point Cook cooks can stock up on winter citrus, roots and greens at neighbourhood markets to build five straightforward meals this July.
How we reported this

Point Cook shoppers this week can grab five winter recipes built around produce stocked at local stalls, including mandarins, cauliflower and silverbeet picked within the past few days.
July marks peak availability for these crops at stands across the suburb, giving residents a direct way to add fibre and vitamin C to daily plates without relying on imports that travel longer distances.
The Point Cook Farmers Market on Boardwalk Boulevard and the weekly stall outside the Point Cook Community Centre on Sneydes Road both reported strong supplies of local mandarins and root vegetables on 7 July. The suburb’s Active Living Centre on Dunnings Road runs a free produce bag program that pairs market finds with simple cooking cards for families.
Market tallies released on 6 July showed cauliflower heads selling at $2.80 each and bunches of silverbeet at $1.50, prices that have held steady since early June while imported broccoli rose 20 cents a head.
Winter Market Staples in Point Cook
Cauliflower, carrots, mandarins, silverbeet and beetroot formed the core of this week’s displays. Stalls also carried small quantities of fennel and potatoes from growers within 30 kilometres of the suburb.
Five Recipes to Try This Week
Mandarin and fennel salad uses two mandarins, one fennel bulb and a handful of silverbeet leaves, dressed with olive oil and a pinch of salt. Pumpkin and lentil curry combines half a butternut pumpkin, one cup of red lentils and two carrots simmered for 25 minutes. Cauliflower cheese bake roasts one whole head with 100 grams of grated cheese for 30 minutes at 180 degrees. Beetroot and carrot slaw grates two beetroots and three carrots, then tosses them in lemon juice from one mandarin. Silverbeet and potato soup simmers four potatoes, one bunch of silverbeet and one onion in 800 millilitres of water for 20 minutes before blending.
Residents can collect the listed items at either market site before 2 pm on Saturdays, then test one recipe each evening while checking with a local GP for any personal dietary adjustments.
