Preston Pools Launch New Group Swim Sessions for All Ages
Preston pools add group sessions that draw families and older adults to water fitness on weekday evenings and weekends.
How we reported this
Preston aquatic centres opened additional group swim slots this week at two main sites, with 180 residents signing up for the first round of mixed-age classes that started on 6 July.
The timing coincides with longer daylight hours and a push from local health teams to increase physical activity before the school holidays end. Water exercise appeals because it reduces joint strain while building endurance, and organisers report steady inquiries from the Fulwood and Ribbleton wards where residents previously travelled to out-of-town facilities.
Named venues and current offerings
Deepdale Leisure Centre on Deepdale Road runs a Tuesday evening aqua circuit for adults over 50 and a Saturday family lane session limited to 30 participants. Ashton Pool in Ashton-on-Ribble added a Wednesday morning parent-and-toddler group that includes 20-minute guided floats followed by free play in the shallow end. Both centres coordinate with the Preston City Council active travel team to offer discounted bus passes for attendees arriving from the city centre.
Attendance records show 1,450 visits across the two pools during June 2026, up 22 percent from the same month last year. A standard 45-minute group session costs £4.80 for adults and £2.40 for children under 16, with a family pass priced at £12 that covers two adults and two children.
Next steps for residents
People interested in joining can book online through the Preston Leisure portal or visit the reception desks at either centre before 8pm on weekdays. Staff recommend arriving 15 minutes early for first-time participants to complete a short health questionnaire and receive a lane allocation based on ability.
